Why Diane Loves Geneva Woods

Updated: Oct 27
I was born in Darlington and when I grew up the site that is now Geneva wood was not accessible to the public and there was a large gate saying ‘keep out’. And a s good girl I did not go in, although I found out afterwards that other kids would go and play there!
When l returned to live in Darlington, about 40 years later in 2003, l was delighted to find a wood near by, at that time it was known simply as the wood. It has been great to explore with my dogs and has been a joy to see it grow and change year on year.
In the years that followed, with the friends that l found there, and with the help of Darlington borough council we created Geneva Wood. It was given the status of a local nature reserve, which gives it a level of protection for now and for future generations to enjoy.
We have looked after the wood and made improvements over the years, some of these you will see elsewhere on this website. My main reason to write this, is to get other people to love it as much as l do, and carry on taking care of it, so it is still here in many years to come, so if you are one of those people please get in touch.
Thank you.
